Airbag Jacket FAQs
Although airbag jackets & vests are becoming increasingly popular, there are still many of our customers who are unsure about the technology, what it does, how it works & what you can or can't do when wearing our airbag system. We've put together this FAQ to try and address those concerns.
Don't forget, if you have any questions that aren't answered below and could be helpful to our riding community, you can post a comment at the bottom of our page. If you have a question which you'd rather not display publicly, simply send us an email, text or give us a call.
Q. Are the jackets & vests reusable?
A. Yes, providing no structural damage has occured. You'll need to check over the jacket thoroughly. Look out for rips & tears and any obvious signs of damage. If you're unsure, you can send your airbag jacket or vest to us to have it checked over.
Q. Are the Co2 cartridges refillable?
A. No, you'll have to replace the Co2 cartridge every time your airbag jacket or vest is inflated.
Q. Do the airbag jackets & vests have any testing or approval?
A. Yes, airbag jackets & vests by MK Moto have been tested to CE approved standards.
Q. Can I wear the airbag clothing over existing protection?
A. Yes, many customers like to use our airbag vests over existing clothing such as leather & textile motorcycle jackets or body protectors. If you do intend to do this we advise going up one size from what you'd normally wear.
Q. Can I wear clothing over the airbag jackets & vests?
A. You shouldn't wear any restrictive clothing over the airbag jackets as it can prevent the airbag system from inflating properly. However, it is okay to wear a loose fitting fluorescent vest or similar. Please ask if you're unsure.
Q. What are the differences between the styles of airbag jackets or vests from MK Moto?
A. The technology within all the airbag garments is identical. Each jacket inflates the same way & has the same inner airbag structure, co2 cartridges and activation/attachment devices. Most of the differences are just styling, some feature pockets where others are more simple, clean designs. Some jackets/vests are fastened by buckles, some fasten with zips. Everyone's different so we try and offer a range of jackets or vests to accomodate our customers needs.
Q. If I walk away from the motorcycle with the jacket still connected, will it inflate?
A. Usually, no. It takes around 18 to 25 kgs of sharp force to activate the airbag jacket. You should always try and disconnect from the motorcycle when dismounting as there is a small chance you may inflate the jacket accidentally, lighter motorcycles (especially scooters) may pulled over before the jacket has chance to inflate. If attached to the handlebars, it's very unlikely that you would dismount the bike and forget to disconnect.
